Introduction
The rat femoral artery model is helpful for learning to handle and anastomose even smaller vessels than those featured in the previous models.
The dissection is more straightforward, and fewer stitches are needed for the anastomosis.
Table setup and materials
The setup is the same as for the rat abdominal aorta, except for the 2 ml syringe, which is not needed here.
Do not exert excessive stretch on the hind limb when pinning the rubber band down, to avoid spasm of the femoral vessels.
Make sure to keep the rubber band around the animal’s hind limb loose, as shown previously, to allow good blood circulation.
